FAST-41 Covered Sediment Diversion Project Receives Permitting Approval
WASHINGTON (December 28, 2022) – The Permitting Council is excited to announce the completion of the environmental review process for the Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion project. This FAST-41 covered project is focused on restoring Louisiana’s Barataria Basin, which is experiencing some of the highest levels of land loss in the country, threatening the welfare of residents and the local ecosystem.
Permitting Council Executive Director Releases Fourth Fiscal Quarter Agency Performance Report
WASHINGTON (December 16, 2022) - Today the Federal Permitting Improvement Steering Council (Permitting Council) Executive Director released the agency’s fourth fiscal quarter Agency Performance Report for 2022. This report assesses agency compliance with provisions of Title 41 of the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act (FAST-41) and highlights implementation of revisions made to the FAST-41 Data Management Guide as required by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL).
Federally Recognized Tribes Receive Groundbreaking Investment to Aid in FAST-41 Covered Infrastructure Project Permitting Reviews
WASHINGTON (December 1, 2022)- The U.S. Federal Permitting Improvement Steering Council (Permitting Council) announces the allocation of $5 million in funding to be made available to Federally recognized Tribes in order to enhance Tribal engagement in the permitting review and authorization process for FAST-41 covered projects. These funds are an initial investment from the Permitting Council’s $350 million dollar Inflation Reduction Act funding and are a significant step in realizing the once-in-a-generation infrastructure goals of the Biden-Harris administration.

WASHINGTON (November 16, 2022)- The U.S. Federal Permitting Improvement Steering Council (Permitting Council) recently joined with project sponsors, the Moapa Band of Paiutes and partners from state and Federal agencies to celebrate the Gemini Solar + Storage project. Projected to generate enough reliable clean energy to power 400,000 homes during super peak periods, this FAST-41 covered project will play a major role in realizing President Biden’s goal of net zero emissions by 2050.
