Congress Passes Inflation Reduction Act

WASHINGTON (August 12, 2022)- Today, Congress passed the Inflation Reduction Act, a landmark investment in our nation’s future that will transform efforts to combat climate change and infuse $350 million into the Federal Permitting Improvement Steering Council (Permitting Council) to advance permitting efficiency and predictability. The Act is expected to lower energy costs, increase cleaner production and reduce carbon emissions by approximately 40% by 2030. 

Ten West Transmission Line Project Receives FAST-41 Approval

The Permitting Council is excited to join the U.S. Department of the Interior in announcing approval for construction of the Ten West Link Transmission Line project, which will facilitate increased renewable energy development and delivery in Arizona and California. The project represents another significant milestone in Federal efforts to lower consumers’ energy costs and modernize America’s power infrastructure in the West by permitting at least 25 gigawatts of solar, wind, and geothermal production on public lands by 2025. Permitting Council Executive Director Releases Quarterly Agency Performance Report

This week the Federal Permitting Improvement Steering Council (Permitting Council) Executive Director released a first-of-its kind Quarterly Agency Performance Report (Report) for the first quarter of 2022. The Report details a period of transition for the newly permanent agency, as it instates a series of project permitting accountability reforms contained in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL). 

Permitting Council Convenes Special Meeting to Kickoff Permitting Action Plan Goals

This week the Federal Permitting Improvement Steering Council (Permitting Council) held a special meeting of its members to discuss the next steps in achieving the ambitious goals outlined in the recently released Biden-Harris Permitting Action Plan. Permitting Council Executive Director Christine Harada, White House Infrastructure Coordinator Mitch Landrieu, White House Council on Environmental Quality Chair Brenda Mallory, and Office of Management and Budget Deputy Director for Management Jason Miller gathered with Deputy Secretaries representing the 13 agencies on the Council to outline a plan forward.
