Milestone Extension: Environmental Assessment (EA)

Submitted by giannina.dimai… on

A confluence of interconnected issues has contributed to the need to revise the overall permitting timetable for this project. The dates are shifting mainly because additional ESA species surveys have been added to the biological work plan in consultation with USFWS and the cultural resource surveys need to be re-performed.

Coordination with all cooperating agencies and project sponsor has occurred for milestone schedule adjustments.

Description:

Intersect Power proposes to construct, operate, maintain, and eventually decommission a 1,150 megawatt solar photovoltaic facility and battery energy storage system on public lands administered by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and Bureau of Reclamation, as well as private lands. The project boundary includes 7,294.5 total acres of which approximately 6,021.2 acres would be developed as part of the solar facility.  The BLM lands where the project is proposed are designated by the BLM as renewable energy “development focus areas” in the Desert Renewable Energy Conservation Plan. The Project’s primary goal is to contribute to the achievement of California’s renewable energy goals and create a new point of interconnection for renewable energy in the Imperial Valley. The project is located in Imperial County, California approximately 37 miles southeast of the Salton Sea and 1.2 miles north of the U.S-Mexico border.  BLM is the lead federal agency.
