Description:
The Chokecherry and Sierra Madre (CCSM) Wind Energy Project was proposed by the Power Company of Wyoming (PCW) in 2008. The project consists of two wind development areas, Chokecherry and Sierra Madre. The two wind development areas, comprise a 219,707-acre conceptual area of development of mixed public and private land located about 10 miles south of Rawlins, Wyoming. The CCSM Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) Record of Decision (ROD) was completed and signed on October 9, 2012. The CCSM project was analyzed under a programmatic Environmental Impact Statement and the Record of Decision was signed by the Secretary of the Interior on October 9, 2012. In the ROD, BLM determined that over 200,000 acres within the CCSM Project Area are suitable for wind energy development subject to the requirements described under the Selected Alternative in the ROD. Phase II of the project includes construction of turbines in the second wind development area.
