The Central Puget Sound Regional Transit Authority (Sound Transit) is proposing to extend its light rail system from Northgate Station in Seattle, WA, north to Lynnwood Transit Center in Lynnwood. The 8.5-mile-long alignment would combine at-grade and elevated guideway primarily within the Interstate 5 right-of-way, with three stations between the termini. This is the primary route serving a large and growing commuter market between Snohomish and King counties, and is part of the state's major north-south freeway. It is one of the most densely developing areas in the Pacific Northwest; roadways in the corridor experience high levels of congestion, degrading mobility, and reliability.
