The Metropolitan Council has proposed the METRO Blue Line Extension project (Bottineau Light Rail Transit) to extend the METRO Blue Line by approximately 13.4 miles.  The extension is planned to extend from downtown Minneapolis through the surrounding communities, connecting North Minneapolis, Robbinsdale, Crystal, and Brooklyn Park and surrounding communities. The proposed alignment includes the construction of 12 new light rail stations, approximately 1,520 additional park-and-ride spaces, accommodations for passenger drop-off, and bicycle and pedestrian access, as well as new or restructured local bus route connections to nearby residential, commercial, and educational land uses.
