Description:
The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority proposes an approximately 6.7-mile transit corridor project to improve north-south mobility in the eastern San Fernando Valley in Southern California, offering additional transit options and increasing access to transit near the corridor. The proposed Project would extend along Van Nuys Boulevard from the Metro Orange Line (located just north of Oxnard Street) in the south in the City of Los Angeles to San Fernando Road where it proceeds to the City of San Fernando and the Sylmar/San Fernando Metrolink Station in the north. The following alternatives are under consideration: No Build; Transportation Systems Management; Build Alternative 1- Curb Running Bus Rapid Transit (BRT); Build Alternative 2- Median Running BRT; Build Alternative 3- Median Running Tram; Build Alternative 4-Light Rail Transit. For Alternatives 3 and 4, a new maintenance facility would be needed to store and maintain the light rail/tram cars. Three candidate locations have been identified for the facility.
