The Red Line Extension Project (Project) proposed by the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) is located in Cook County, Illinois. The Project would extend the existing CTA Red Line heavy rail transit service south from the existing 95th Street Terminal to Chicago's Far South Side. Alternatives being considered include a No Build and a Build Alternative. The Build Alternative, referred to as the Union Pacific Railroad Rail Alternative, has two alignment (route) options: the East Option and the West Option. The Project has been proposed to reduce commute times for residents, improve mobility and accessibility, and provide connection to other transportation modes.
