The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) proposes to extend its heavy rail service from the existing Indian Creek Station southward (primarily within the I-285 right-of-way) to a new station at Wesley Chapel Road, then eastward (primarily within the I-20 right-of-way) to the Mall at Stonecrest. This project would extend the existing Blue Line service and create a heavy rail station at Covington Highway, Wesley Chapel Road, Panola Road, Lithonia Industrial Boulevard, and Mall at Stonecrest, serving eastern DeKalb County. The existing and future roadway congestion in this corridor will have an increasing detrimental effect on automobile and bus transit travel times in the corridor. The proposed transit investment is intended to improve transit access and travel reliability by providing high capacity transit service for commuters living and working in the corridor.
