Description:

The New Amalga Gold Project is located within the Tongass National Forest in southeast Alaska, approximately 25 miles north of Juneau and four miles east of Glacier Highway. The project includes underground extraction of gold ore, sorting, and transport of ore on a mine access road to be developed. The mine access road consists of an approximately 4-mile single-lane gravel road to be developed through State of Alaska land and the Tongass National Forest, leading to an approximate 30-acre surface facilities site. This site will host infrastructure such as equipment shops, electrical generation, water treatment plants, ore sorting facilities, and temporary rock staging pads.

The underground mining method will selectively target gold ore veins, and the mined-out voids will be progressively backfilled utilizing cemented waste rock generated from mine development and from ore sorting. The project will not have on-site mine processing of extracted materials. 

Ore will be mechanically sorted and loaded into containers and trucked over the mine access road and Glacier Highway to Cascade Point, a privately-owned parcel where a barge dock will be developed to enable gold ore transport off-site. No mine tailings will be stored at the site, and no tailings dams or tailings landfills will be constructed.
