Description:

The purpose of this project is to improve accessibility and connectivity to essential community destinations within the project limits for the community adjacent to SR-66. The project would also support the livability and vitality of the community through improvements in non-motorist safety, mobility, and comfort by reducing vehicle speeds or volumes. The deficiencies within this segment of SR-66 include uneven broken sidewalks, overgrown landscaped strips near sidewalks, multiple driveways that contribute to uneven sidewalks, above ground utilities within the sidewalks reducing the width in some locations. Within the project limits, some curb ramps are not in compliance with current standards and basic crosswalks do not provide optimal pedestrian visibility. Currently, there are no bicycle facilities within the project limits and bicyclists traveling through must share the travel lane with moving traffic including trucks. Uninviting conditions for bicyclists on the road can lead to riding on sidewalks and potential conflict with pedestrians. The project is needed to improve bicycle and pedestrian connectivity and the level of comfort for all users on SR-66 which functions as an important neighborhood corridor within a disadvantaged community.
