Description:

The Aleut Corporation (TAC) is proposing improvements to Pier Five at the Port of Adak in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska. The Proposed Action entails repairs and updates to Pier Five, the primary supply pier for this remote Alaskan village. The grant would fund planning and permitting work, removal of the deteriorated timber pile fender system, installation of a high-energy absorbing fender system, and installation of new sewer, firefighting water, and potable water.

The Proposed Action includes planning, environmental documentation, engineering, permitting, and procurement. Construction includes construction management, removal of the deteriorated timber pile fender system, repairs to damaged concrete piles and caps, installation of a high-energy absorbing fender system, and installation of new sewer, firefighting water, potable water, electrical and communications utilities, and LED lighting.

Component 1 – Final Design and Engineering

  • Planning, final design, environmental review, inspection, permitting, and project bidding and award.  Dive inspection of piling.

Component 2 – Pier Five Improvements

  • Removal/Demolition of the existing timber pile fender system, timber wale top rail, steel egress ladders, under-deck catwalk system.
  • Repair/Replacement of damaged prestressed concrete piles on the southwest end, outboard, section of Pier Five and of concrete pile caps.
  • Installation of a modern high energy absorbing fender system, with rubber cylindrical fenders, designed around the mooring requirements of the 58-foot commercial fishing vessel fleet.
  • Inset egress ladders will be incorporated into the face of the fender assemblies.
  • Install anodes on support piles below water.
  • Installation of a new sewer, including upland replacement, potable water, and firewater on Pier Five.
