BIA continues to coordinate with the Project Sponsor (Navajo Nation Broadband Office) and the applicant (Sacred Wind) to get the information needed to finalize the EA. Survey plats for the project are a critical missing piece of information. Revised survey plats were recently submitted on 6/26 which BIA is currently reviewing for accuracy and completeness. On 6/15, the applicant indicated that a Crownpoint lateral would be removed from the project, to be pursued outside of FAST-41, to which BIA requested this statement in writing. Confirmation was submitted on 7/1. This has confounded the process for finalization of the EA. Additionally, BLM Farmington and Rio Puerco Field Offices – who also have authorizations using this EA – provided comments on the draft EA to the Project Sponsor and Applicant on 6/17 and 6/24. The Project Sponsor and applicant are now in the process of resolving these issues. BIA coordinated with the Project Sponsor and applicant on the date changes prior to posting to the Dashboard. , basic_html

The Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) could not meet the target deadline of 5/22/2026 for the dashboard Milestone ‘Issuance of a Final EA (Agency Action)’ on the Navajo Nation Department of Education E-Rate Funded Broadband Project. The draft environmental assessment (EA), as submitted, includes critical inaccuracies and inconsistencies making it deficient for federal authorizations. BIA is actively working with the proponent to address these issues and is coordinating reviews with partner agencies (Bureau of Land Management and Bureau of Reclamation) to finalize the document. BIA intends to finalize the document by 6/30/2026.  , basic_html
