Request for Special Use Permit Department of Agriculture Thomas Doane 04/09/2012 Complete

The Forest Service released the Supplemental Draft Environmental Impact Statement (SDEIS) for the proposed Deerfield Wind Project for public comment in mid-December 2010. The minimum 45-day comment period was expected to run through February 18, 2011 but in order to allow for adequate public input, the comment period was extended through March 18, 2011. Roughly 570 individual responses totaling more than 1,000 separate comments were received. Responses to the comments and any additional analysis resulting from them are incorporated in the FEIS. A Record of Decision (ROD) and Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) was issued on January 3, 2012. The public comment period on the decision ended on February 23, 2012. On April 9, 2012, Eastern Regional Forester Chuck Myers, acting as appeal deciding officer, upheld Forest Supervisor Colleen Madrid's January 3, 2012 decision to approve the construction of a 15-turbine wind energy facility on national forest system lands in Vermont.
