The Department of Agriculture (USDA) provides leadership on food, agriculture, natural resources, rural development, nutrition and related issues based on sound public policy, the best available science, and efficient management.

The mission of the Energy Department is to ensure America’s security and prosperity by addressing its energy, environmental and nuclear challenges through transformative science and technology solutions. The Energy Department works to catalyze the timely, material, and efficient transformation of the nation’s energy system and secure U.S. leadership in clean energy technologies.

The mission of EPA is to protect human health and the environment. EPA’s primary goals are to improve air quality and take action on climate change; protect America’s waters; clean up communities and advance sustainable development; ensure the safety of chemicals and prevent pollution; and enforce environmental laws. EPA accomplishes its mission by a variety of research, monitoring, standard setting, and enforcement activities. EPA also coordinates and supports research and antipollution activities of State and local and tribal governments, private and public groups, individuals, and educational institutions.

The U.S. Department of the Interior protects and manages the Nation's natural resources and cultural heritage; provides scientific and other information about those resources; and honors its trust responsibilities or special commitments to American Indians, Alaska Natives, and affiliated Island Communities.

The vision of homeland security is to ensure a homeland that is safe, secure, and resilient against terrorism and other hazards where American interests, aspirations, and way of life can thrive.

The Department of Defense is America's oldest and largest government agency, whose mission is to provide the military forces needed to deter war and to protect the security of our country. Today, the Department of Defense is not only in charge of the military, but it also employs a civilian force of thousands. With over 1.4 million men and women on active duty, and 718,000 civilian personnel, we are the nation's largest employer.
